Community Transport Association of Ireland

The Community Transport Association of Ireland (CTAI) is the representative body for the small, but developing, community transport sector in the Republic of Ireland. The CTAI is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status and celebrated its 5th Anniversary in 2006.

The CTAI manages the Community Transport Advice & Information Service (CTAIS) as a joint project with the Northern Ireland office of the Community Transport Association UK, which is the lead partner.

The CTAI has recently been successful in its application to The Wheel for funding under the Training Links Programme.  It will be the lead partner in the Community Transport Training Network, which consists of CTAI members and some CTAUK members in Northern Ireland.  This will enable the CTAI to implement, in conjunction with the CTAIS, a high quality training programme from October 2006 to June 2007.

The CTAI also undertakes research and consultancy on local passenger transport. For example, it has been working with Clare Accessible Transport on a feasibility study for the conversion of its bus fleet to operate on biofuels and on local transport co-ordination. This research and consultancy work feeds into the preparation of advice notes, guides and training materials on topics relevant to local passenger transport operators, which will be produced by the CTAIS.
